What Is Roof Rodent Control?
Hearing scratching or scampering in your roof? We inspect to confirm it is definitely rats or mice, not a protected possum, then lay compliant bait to get rid of them quickly and safely.
Roof rodent control is for homeowners hearing light scampering or scratching noises overhead who suspect rats or mice. Because standard rat baits can be lethal to protected native wildlife, we require a full roof inspection before laying any bait to ensure no possums are present. This service is strictly for roof cavity rodents, not general household pest spraying.
- Mandatory roof inspection before any baiting
- Confirmation that the noise is rodents, not possums
- Compliant baiting to eliminate the colony
- Protection of protected native wildlife

Common Signs You Need This Service
Recognising the signs early can prevent further damage to your home.
Light Scampering and Scratching
Light scampering, scratching, or pitter-patter noises overhead, often smaller and faster than heavy possum thumping.
Chewed Cabling and Insulation
Chewed electrical cabling, plastic piping, or insulation material inside the ceiling space caused by rodents gnawing.
Rodent Odours and Droppings
Foul rodent odours or droppings near roof access hatches and inside the ceiling cavity.
Uncertain Noise Source
Worry and confusion over whether the noise is a protected possum or a rodent pest, making DIY treatment risky.
Our Process
A clear, step-by-step approach to solving your possum problem.
Mandatory Exterior Inspection
A technician conducts a thorough exterior roof check of tiles, ridge capping, eaves, and gutters, searching for possum-sized entry points.
Internal Roof Space Assessment
If no exterior possum entry points are found, the technician climbs into the roof cavity to inspect droppings, tracks, nesting material, and gnaw marks to confirm whether rats or mice are present.
Targeted Baiting
Once it is verified that no possums are inhabiting the space, compliant rodent bait is strategically placed in the roof void according to current regulations.
Resolution Monitoring
The bait works to eliminate the rodent colony over the following days to weeks until activity stops completely.
What to Expect
Here's what happens before, during, and after your service.
Before
Ensure clear, unobstructed access to the internal ceiling hatch for the technician. Keep children and domestic pets away from the roof access area during inspection and bait placement. Report any specific timing or location of ceiling noises to help guide the inspection.
During
Day 1 covers the mandatory exterior and interior roof inspection and strategic bait placement. If possums are found during the inspection, we will advise you on possum proofing or removal instead of baiting.
After
Over the following days to weeks, rodents consume the bait and colony activity declines until noises stop. Rodent baiting carries no warranty, as rodent access points remain open and external population pressures are outside our control.
Materials and Equipment We Use
We use durable, weather-resistant materials designed to withstand Australian conditions and possum activity.
- Commercial-grade rat and mouse baits installed strictly in accordance with current pesticide and wildlife protection laws
- Tamper-resistant bait stations and secure anchor ties used inside accessible roof spaces to prevent displacement
- High-powered torches, thermal and borescope inspection tools, and personal protective equipment
What's Not Included
To keep our service focused and effective, the following are outside the scope of this service.
- No guarantee on bait efficacy or timeline, as wild rodent populations fluctuate and feed unpredictably
- No animal retrieval guarantee if a rodent dies inside an inaccessible section of the roof void or wall cavity, though technicians will assist with retrieval if the carcass is easily accessible
- General household pest control such as spraying for spiders, ants, or cockroaches is not included
